The Atlantic County Institute of Technology boys basketball team will look to lean on the experience and leadership of junior Jayden Lopez this upcoming winter. Lopez is the Red Hawks’ lone returning starter and averaged over eight points per game last season.
“Jayden Lopez has been a huge asset to this program so far in his career,” coach Byron Nelson said. “Bringing him back as a returning starter and a potential leading scorer helps set the standard for our other returning and new guys. I cannot wait to see the result of all the hard work he has put in throughout this offseason in helping our team reach our goals and expectations.”
Atlantic Tech will look to build on its 4-9 record from a season ago. The Red Hawks collected a pair of wins over Harding Highway rival Oakcrest and earned victories against Atlantic Christian and Pleasantville.
Seniors Reggie Verna, Eric Williams, Zaheer Owens, and junior Desi Stroud are all returning lettermen. Owens averaged 4.9 points per game last season. He also contributed 59 points as a sophomore in 2019-20 as Atlantic Tech finished 14-12 — its most recent winning campaign.
The Red Hawks’ lengthy list of newcomers includes senior Edison Reyes, juniors Nasir Tucker, Darryl Deal, Jevon Ryther, Zahir Davis, Jameil Quintana and freshman Jayden Dixon.
